How long will the pilot phase of Wimba Classroom last?

NIU will be piloting Wimba Classroom for a term of 6 months that will end August 31, 2008. During this time, NIU faculty are encouraged to try the tool and provide feedback as to its utility in enhancing the teaching and learning experience.


Who can use Wimba Classroom during the pilot period?

Any NIU faculty/staff or graduate teaching assistants who teach with Blackboard during the Spring 2008 or Summer 2008 academic terms are welcome to use the Wimba Classroom online collaboration tool within Blackboard. In addition, Blackboard Community leaders are encouraged to try the integrated Wimba Classroom functionality as it is also available in all Blackboard Communities during the pilot period.


What training is available for those desiring to teach with Wimba Classroom?

What are the minimum technical requirements for students and presenters using Wimba Classroom?

Participant Requirements:

  • Windows 2000+, Mac OSX 10.2+ or Linux*
  • 128 MB RAM (256 MB recommended)
  • Internet Explorer 5.0+, Netscape 7.0+, Mozilla 1.0+, Safari 1.1+
    (Browser must be Java and JavaScript enabled)
  • Internet access at 56k or above (Broadband strongly recommended)

Presenter Requirements:

  • Windows 2000+, Mac OSX 10.2 or Linux*
  • 256 MB RAM (higher recommended)
  • Internet Explore 5.0+, Netscape 7.0+, Mozilla 1.0+, Safari 1.1+
    (Browser must be Java and JavaScript enabled)
  • Internet access at 56k or above (Broadband strongly recommended)

* Mac OS9 and Linux have limited features and functionality.
